The corrupt governmental agency that says it’s “protecting and promoting your health” is directly responsible for the deaths of thousands and thousands of Americans each year. Join us in calling for a complete overhaul of the US Food and Drug Administration!

These failures affect the health of all Americans. Good drugs are either not approved or are approved after interminable delays. Even after new drugs are shown to be safe, doctors are not allowed to use them with terminally ill patients whose cases are otherwise hopeless. Instead, the FDA approves a shocking number of extremely dangerous and often addictive drugs—often on the basis of a recommendation by panels whose members include consultants from drug companies that have deliberately suppressed unfavorable scientific drug studies.

Meanwhile the agency has been censoring free speech about the science of natural foods. The FDA is shockingly biased in favor of drugs and against natural health, and will go out of their way to protect Big Pharma’s profits.

We must persuade Congress to address the comprehensive failure of the FDA. Please sign our Reform the FDA Petition! We must collect such a large number of names on the petition that it compels congressional action. Congress already knows that the FDA has serious problems. This petition will help move them to take the urgent action required.

The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is responsible for promoting public health through the regulation and supervision of food safety, prescription drugs, dietary supplements, medical devices, tobacco products, vaccines, cosmetics, and more. The FDA has tremendous power, regulating about 10% of the US economy. The FDA's budget in fiscal year 2015 was $4.7 billion.

Unfortunately, the FDA has proved time and again that it is unable to carry out this mission and protect the American people from preventable harm.

The agency has demonstrated time and time again that it is in the pocket of the drug industry. The FDA approves drugs it knows are dangerous and suppresses drug trials that raise safety concerns. Drugs to treat chronic conditions like heartburn and diabetes are approved despite substantial side effects and questionable efficacy.

Meanwhile the FDA censors the communication of scientific information and opposes or bans cheaper and often more effective natural remedies in a misguided effort to maintain an FDA-approved drug monopoly. Whether it is supplements, laboratory developed tests, homeopathy, or compounded natural medicines, the FDA has repeatedly tried to restrict or eliminate natural medicine, likely at the behest of Big Pharma which doesn't like the competition.

The list goes on. The agency tramples on small food producers by going after raw milk, raw milk cheese, and raw agricultural commodities in favor of dangerous irradiated food. The FDA promotes GMOs, vaccines, and food additives despite documented safety risks associated with all three.

How does this happen?

A clue was provided in a 60-page report entitled "FDA Science and Mission at Risk" which was released by Congress in 2007. In this report, Congress found that the FDA lacks the competency and capacity to keep up with scientific advances.

Put another way, Congress said that Americans are suffering and dying because the agency does not have the scientific ability to ascertain if new drugs are safe or effective or to evaluate scientific claims.

We, the citizens whose signatures appear below, respectfully request immediate action to reform the FDA. A total overhaul is urgently needed. Everything about the FDA must be taken apart, reviewed, redefined, and recreated so that it supports, not obstructs, the mission of advancing medical science and vibrant good health for all.
