NJ Residents: Support An Open Market for Nutrition

The New Jersey legislature is considering a bill, A1582, to provide licensure for the practice of nutrition in the state. However, the bill will prevent some health coaches and other nutrition professionals from practicing to the level of their experience and education. This could restrict a consumer's choice when they are seeking the services of the nutrition professional of their choice.

Too often, particular trade associations, such as the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (AND), try to exclude other professionals from practicing. In practice this often means that practitioners who don’t ascribe to a narrow set of conventional practices are unable to compete. ANH supports a free and open market in which consumers can choose which credentials and what level of education they prefer.

Write to your representative and urge him or her to oppose A1582.
